Summer is just around the corner and you are still not ready for all its challenges? Most of all we have to make sure to have the best protection against the sun rays. Check out how to do it effectively step by step.
Many of us long for the beginning of the summer when the warm sun rays will finally skim the face. You just want to go out, sit on the beach, and relax. The thing is that our skin is not relaxing during our sunbaths. In spite of this fact, most people are still unaware of the fact that tanning can be harmful.
The impact of the sun on the skin
Sun rays that reach us and warm our skin are mostly UV rays. These are harmful because can cause skin changes, such as hyperpigmentations. Speed up skin aging and make it lose its suppleness and hydration so the skin becomes dull.
Our natural protection against the sun is melanin. This pigment in our skin is like a shield that takes on all harmful radiation. That is how the tan is being created – the more exposition to the sun, the more protective pigment.
How to protect yourself against the sun?
Obviously, natural protection is not enough. To avoid photoaging, dryness, irritation, and redness, you should implement a few simple rules. Thanks to them you will protect yourself against the sun effectively.
1. Use cosmetics with a UV filter on the body, face, and hair.
The easiest and the most effective way to protect the skin against the sun is to introduce your summer season beauty routine to cosmetics with UV filter. It would be best if those would be special creams with a UV filter that can be used separately but you can also look for cosmetics you use on daily basis such as face serum, balm, mist, or even make-up products. The curious thing is that some natural oils are natural UV filters – the best protection is provided by raspberry seed oil and carrot seed oil.
2. If possible, protect yourself with clothes/hats.
An additional barrier to consider is fabric. Even though the temperature in the summer is encouraging you to show a little skin, you should sometimes cover, e.g. shoulders or face in the shadow of the wide brim of a hat. Try choosing cosmetics made with natural materials, e.g. linen or 100% cotton to make sure that skin can breathe while being protected against the sun.
3. Do not go outside in the hours the sun is the strongest.
The easiest type of protection against the sun is obviously common sense. If you do not have to go out, it is better to stay at home or rest in the shadow. Especially when we talk about the hours when the sun is the strongest, i.e. between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. Nonetheless, when you go out in the morning or evening hours, do not forget about the methods we discussed earlier.
