We are currently witnessing the deliberate simplification of make-up. Although the form remains the same, we want to make it as quickly as possible. For this reason, the eyebrow and eyelashes tinting has become so popular recently. How to apply henna at home? It is enough to know just a few simple tricks.
What is henna? It is a natural dye – completely safe. It usually has the form of paste or powder to be mixed with water. It is obtained from dried leaves and stems of Lawsonia inermis, a common plant in India.
The most popular are henna tattoos, which are traditionally made in the East. Thanks to henna, we can also easily improve the contour of the eyebrows and emphasize the colour of eyelashes. Although henna tinting can be done in a beauty salon, many women decide to apply it at home.
How does henna dye?
Henna dyes because of the presence of some substance in henna’s leaves. Lawsone, because that’s what we are talking about, gives henna its colouring properties. This substance combines with the keratin of the hair, creating a layer around it. This is how the difference in colour is visible. The effect, however, is temporary because the layer rinses and the colour fades.
FUN FACT: The younger the leaves of Lawsonia, the greater the content of the dye.
Other properties of henna
Not many people realize that henna also has many interesting properties besides dyeing. What exactly? Natural henna – from a good source, without chemical substances, has antifungal, antibacterial and calming properties. It helps to cure dandruff, burns and skin diseases of various types. It also provides protection and shine to your hair.
