A brief compendium. Eyelashes – anatomy, care

Do you know how long a lash lives? How many lashes do we have? What is their main role? What do they need to grow? We do not pay too much attention to those matters. That’s not a good thing because such pieces of information can make things easier.

Let’s start with the fact that an eyelash is also hair. It is definitely shorter and not as soft but it is still hair that requires specific treatment. Lashes are built analogically to the hair. They have a bulb rooted in a follicle and there is the shaft that grows above the skin. Here is a fun fact! Bulbs are the only living parts of lashes (and the hair). That is where all the processes responsible for their growth are taking place and that is why it is so important to take care of it.

Since we are discussing lash growth, there is one crucial thing worth mentioning. Why do lashes not grow as long as hair? It is all perfectly thought-through by nature which has reduced lash growth cycle to obtain an optimum length. A lash lives from 2 to 4 months the, it dies and falls out. To be more precise, the old lash is pushed out by the new one. That is why we often notice a lash that fell out without any visible deficiencies. There are no drastic changes and the lashes are systematically replaced with new ones.

Eyelash serum fit in this cycle perfectly. They stimulate the bulbs and at the same time increase lash-growth processes. This way, the new ones become longer and stronger. A high-quality lash serum is a combination of substances that are aimed at improving natural regenerating processes. Only when using such a special serum, lashes will grow longer and thicker. What to do to make lashes beautiful for longer? The best advice is to apply a serum regularly; it will replenish nutrient deficiencies and ensures proper hydration. Additionally, it will be a booster for dormant bulbs and it will provide a great protection against harmful external factors. Proper care is the key to success.

There is one more thing that should be mentioned. How many lashes do we actually have? Their number is different for every one of us and it might alter with age. The older we become, the lower the growth potential is. Also, with age, they are more brittle, thin and are more likely to fall out. The average number of lashes we have is about 200 on the upper lid and 100 on the lower one (on one eye, of course). Also, their length varies for different people. The upper lashes can be 6 to even 12mm long (in the outer corner). All those pieces of information are stored in our genes but are not always visible. Thus an everyday care is the best way to enhance their features and make the best of them.
