They differ in many aspects, yet both are connected with the basic function they perform. Deodorants and antiperspirants limit sweating and provide the feeling of freshness. Find out which one would turn out to be better for you.
DEODORANT
Slows down production of the unpleasant smell through impeding bacteria from being in contact with sweat (it’s odourless). The action of a deodorant depends on the substances it contains. The product can either camouflage the peculiar smell or delay bacteria multiplication. Deodorants are recommended for people who perspire in a regular way. This product works up to a few hours.
It’s believed that deodorants contain controversial substances. These are aluminium, parabens, phthalates, glycol and ethyl alcohol. These substances cause irritations, stinging and itching of skin. They can penetrate deep into organism contributing to development of many serious diseases. Therefore, mineral preparations containing panthenol, vitamin C and E, ceramides and aloe seem to be a better solution, especially for people with sensitive skin.
ANTIPERSPIRANT
Limits sweat production by reducing its quantity due to temporary closing of skin pores. Skin pores re-open during bathing/showering, intensive sweating or peeling. Antiperspirants contain clay, aluminium and fragrances. They are recommended for people who have problems with excessive perspiration. These products can work even up to 48 hours.
If you apply antiperspirant, remember:
- to use it only on clean and dry skin;
- not to use it on irritated skin (for example after shaving);
- not to use the product before sunbathing since it may cause discolorations;
- not to use it before putting on a blouse since some ingredients an antiperspirant is made from may stain clothes;
- to make breaks while using the product.
