However, it turns out that the packaging a particular cosmetic is stored in also has an influence on the product’s features. Therefore, the material a particular packaging is made of should take your interest in as well. Can plastic cosmetic packaging really cause damage to our skin?

Type of material – Where to look for the indications?

The information concerning the type of a material a particular product is made of is located either in the bottom or right next to the list of ingredients and PAO symbol. Moreover, three arrows with numbers and letters in the middle are another indicator of the material the packaging was made of. This is the international sign relieving the type of material used during the production. In general, there are seven indicators. If we care for our skin being healthy and pretty, we should learn all of them. Moreover, some packaging can be recycled. And these are marked alike.

Symbols on cosmetic packaging

PET 1 it’s the most frequently type of material used. Unfortunately, it can be used once only so it can’t be recycled. However, the worst is the fact that packaging made of PET 1 can be contaminated and may have negative impact on the endocrine system. If you have cosmetics packed in such containers then you should store them in a dry and dark place. Why? Otherwise the substances the material is made of can penetrate the cosmetic and, as a consequence, get into our organism.

HDPE 2 and LDPE 4 are considered as one of the safest materials. Packaging made of this material can be stored at will and used many times.

PCV 3 you should stay away from this kind of packaging. There are still tests being run to define this material’s toxicity level. As far, it was proven that these packaging releases substances that are said to be dangerous for skin and health.

PP 5 it’s believed to be the safest material that can be used to produce a cosmetic packaging. It’s mainly used by brands granted with certificates stating their eco-friendliness. It’s also worth mentioning that the same material is used to produce packaging and foil where food products are stored.

PS 6 this is packaging made of expanded polystyrene. So far, there was nobody who has come up with the idea to place cosmetics into such containers.

OTHER 7 it’s the most mysterious indicator of cosmetic packaging. At the same time, it’s considered as the most dangerous material. It has negative impact on nervous and endocrine system. It would be better for all of us to throw away all products that are stored in this kind of packaging.
