Beauty products with elastin – action, effects and application

Smooth and firm skin is every woman’s dream. However, to make it come true, you should supplement your body with the products with collagen and elastin. Check how elastin works and how it affects the condition of your skin.

What is elastin?

Elastin is a protein in the connective tissue of the skin. It is also found in tendons, ligaments, lung tissue and large blood vessels. Elastin produces fibroblasts and, together with collagen, forms a ‘scaffolding’ for the skin. The main functions of elastin are: providing the skin with elasticity, expanding and contracting blood vessels, increasing the volume of the lungs during breathing and supporting the work of ligaments and tendons.

What are the properties of elastin?

Elastin has high tensile strength and is resistant to various mechanical factors. Its properties and action complement the action of collagen. Elastin strengthens collagen during stretching, and collagen protects elastin from excessive stretching.

Elastin has also protective functions. It protects the skin from harmful external factors, such as chemicals in cosmetics. Unfortunately, the amount of elastin decreases with age. Then the aging process begins, wrinkles appear and the skin loses its firmness. The loss of elastin is also associated with various skin injuries such as sunburns.

Elastin in cosmetics

Elastin is found primarily in cosmetics intended for the care of mature skin, hair and nails. Together with collagen, it prevents wrinkles from deepening and photoaging, it firms and moisturizes it. Cosmetics with elastin:

  • even out the skin tone,
  • reduce the formation of wrinkles,
  • brighten discoloration,
  • reduce cellulite,
  • deeply moisturize.

Elastin can be also found in the supplements. Their task is to keep the body and skin in proper condition. Unfortunately, those products are not able to slow down time.
