Hair conditioners: types and properties

The cosmetic market offers a wide variety of hair conditioners. Most of them are designed for a particular hair type but some are aimed to solve a specific problem, such as slow hair growth. Get to know more about hair conditioners, their types and properties.

Moisturising hair conditioner 

It is intended for the care of dry hair, therefore it contains ingredients that absorb moisture from the outside and retain it inside the hair. Conditioners owe these properties to honey, aloe extract, linseed, urea and hyaluronic acid. What’s more, the producers like to include natural oils in their compositions, which leave a coating on the surface of the hair that is responsible for preventing moisture loss.

A conditioner for oily hair

contains substances that are responsible for reducing sebum secretion, for instance, nettle, burdock, white clay, mint, aloe, rosemary or green tea. Hair oiliness is often accompanied by dandruff, which is why some conditioners contain ingredients suitable to combat it, including sulfur, urea, tar or salicylic acid.

A conditioner for normal hair

includes ingredients aimed at preventing dehydration and delivering valuable nutrients and vitamins. These are, for instance, natural oils, herbal extracts and vitamins A, E, F.

A conditioner for damaged hair

comprises regenerating substances, for example, coconut oil, argan oil, keratin, shea butter, or avocado oil.

Growth-boosting hair conditioner 

As the name indicates, this product is developed to increase hair growth. It contains ingredients, such as amber, burdock, turnip or horsetail extract, panthenol and vitamins A, E, F and H.

A conditioner for curly hair

is to prevent frizz, enhance the curl, make combing and styling easier. Therefore, conditioners dedicated to curly hair consist of shea butter, avocado and aloe extracts.

A conditioner for colour-treated hair

must provide proper colour protection which means it will regenerate microdamages caused by dyeing and prevent colour loss. A good conditioner for dyed hair should contain protein hydrolysates, glycerin, panthenol and vitamin E.

A leave-in hair conditioner

is especially recommended for the care of curly hair because it prevents frizz and help styling.
